Read All About It: The Arctic Island That Disappeared

The Barents Observer newspaper in Norway recently published a story on Perlamutrovy, a super-remote island that appeared on early 20th-century maps of the Arctic but that seems to have completely disappeared.

Quotable quote: “The island of Perlamutrovy is simply gone, and nobody seems to know exactly what has happened. On the site is now only open water . . . ‘It is very important to understand the reasons why the island has disappeared’, says Aleksandr Kiriolov, director of the Russian Arktika National Park. He is confident that it is related with the rapid climate changes in the area.”
