Baby Elephant in Amboseli National Park in KenyaMy Modern Met, a culture and humanities website, recently posted an article on the elephant population boom in Kenya. Over the past 30 years, that nation’s elephant population has more than doubled from 16,000 elephants in 1989 to 34,800 elephants in 2019.

Quotable quote: “So what’s the cause of this baby boom? The biggest factor is the environment. Over the past two years, record rains have put an end to the drought that had made life difficult for these incredible animals. Though these rains have also caused flooding and people have lost their lives, the much-needed water has regenerated vegetation. This means that fewer elephants have perished due to starvation and dehydration.”
