Encanto — the new animated movie from Disney — tells the tale of an extraordinary family who live in the mountains of Colombia, in a magical house, in a vibrant town, in a wondrous, charmed place called Encanto.
The magic of the Encanto has blessed every child in the family with a unique gift from super strength to the power to heal—every child except one, Mirabel. But when she discovers that the magic surrounding the Encanto is in danger, Mirabel decides that she, the only ordinary Madrigal, might just be her exceptional family’s last hope.
Encanto has been drawing rave reviews from both movie critics and ordinary fans. The film currently has a 90% critics score and 93% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes.
“Encanto’s absolute perfection and (magical) hyper-realism leaves us speechless . . . with something apparently as insignificant as the movement of a skirt,” writes Fausto Fernandez in Spain’s Fotogramas movie magazine.
“For Disney to make a film about Colombian folk culture is a gorgeous, original choice. But like its best films, the universal touch carries the real magic,” says Alci Rengifo of Entertainment Voice in Hollywood.
“With their 60th animated feature, Disney takes us on a vibrant and magical trip to Colombia in Encanto to provide fun that the whole family can enjoy,” declares Chicago film critic Danielle Solzman.
