Iceland is famous for its geothermal baths, natural pools, hot tubs and spas. The new Forest Lagoon in northern Iceland — with its spectacular location and full-service spa — is a perfect complement to the famous Blue Lagoon (1992) and the new Sky Lagoon (2021) in Reykjavik.

Construction workers discovered the new geothermal hotspot by accident in 2015 while excavating a road tunnel in the Vaðlaskóbrandur forest near Akureyri on the island’s north shore.

Given its unusual location (there aren’t of natural forests in Iceland) and location near the island’s largest city outside the capital area, transforming the site into a swimming lagoon and modern spa was a no brainer.

Surrounded by birch and pine trees, the hot springs complex features a main infinity edged pool, warm pool and cold pool, as well as two swim-up bars, sauna, relaxation room, changing rooms with lockers, restaurant and lounge with a cozy fireplace.

To answer the most obvious question, the temperature of the Forest Lagoon water ranges from 39°C to 42°C (about 102° to 107°F).

Iceland ProTravel can design and arrange a self-drive road trip to northern Iceland that includes a refreshing, relaxing sojourn at the Forest Lagoon.
