Wonders of the North
Starting from Santiago, this 10-day circuit visits garden city Viña del Mar and oceanside Valparaiso, before heading north along to coast to Arica, Putre and Lauca National Park. The journey continues through historic Iquique, a world heritage site comprising Santa Laura and Humberstone saltpeter ghost towns, and the Pampa del Tamarugal. Plunging farther into the Atacama Desert, the trail leads to the oasis town of San Pedro de Atacama and the Tatio geyser field.
Classic Chile
Heading north from Santiago, the journey begins with a visit to San Pedro de Atacama, an oasis town in the middle of the world’s most arid desert and a surrounding region known for the strange Valley of the Moon, the flamingos that flock to altiplano lagoons, and the geysers of Tatio. Then it’s off to the gorgeous Lakes & Volcanoes region, a leg that includes seaside Puerto Montt, lakeside Puerto Varas, and Lake Todos los Santos in the heart of the Andes. Next comes magical Chiloe Island and a flight to Patagonia for to see Balmaceda Glacier, Milodon Cave and Torres del Paine National Park.
Essential Chile
Big city Santiago is the starting point for a journey that starts with Viña del Mar, Valparaiso, and San Pedro de Atacama. In a radical change from the world’s most extreme desert, the circuit continues in Patagonia with the glaciers, forests and fabulous snowcapped peaks of Torres del Paine National Park and the region around Puerto Natales.
