Besides the famous Ring Road and Golden Circle, Iceland boasts another epic road-trip route along the island’s north shore that connects the famous places and breathtaking natural wonders of the region: the Diamond Circle.

The Diamond Circle (or “Demantshringurinn” in Icelandic) is a popular new travel route in the north of Iceland. It covers around 250 km (155 miles) and passes through some of the most spectacular terrain and scenery on the island.

Among the famous sights on the Diamond Circle are the spectacular Goðafoss (“Waterfall of the Gods”), the picturesque harbor town of Húsavík (with its Hollywood movie history), the gaping horseshoe-shaped Ásbyrgi Canyon Dettifoss waterfall in Vatnajökull National Park, and finally the Mývatn Nature Bath and Lake Mývatn.

Due to its location and distance from Reykjavík, this itinerary is less known and much less traveled than the popular Golden Circle route. So if you’re in the mood for an unforgettable road trip, this is the perfect opportunity.
