Ocean fishing in the Westfjords region is a bucket list adventure for many avid anglers. But you need to book early because the 2024 fishing season is fast approaching.

From early May through mid-September, Iceland ProTravel offers a nine-day tour to Flateyri and Sudureyri in the Westfjords. However, they can also plan a customized fishing experience on request.

Fishermen stay in three-bedroom cottages or apartments that can accommodate up to six people. It’s most common for parties of four fisherman to share accommodation and a boat.

The most common catches are cod, haddock, wolf fish, monkfish and even the Atlantic halibut (sometimes more than 200 kg!). A 20-kg mixture of four different types of frozen fish fillets is available in cooler bags for you to take home.
