You don’t have to be an avid fly fisher to stay at Argentina’s River House Lodge.

Among the many optional daily activities are hiking, yoga, massage, mountain biking, whitewater rafting, golfing, and even cooking and tango lessons.

Nearby Lanin National Park offers numerous hiking trails ranging from easy routes like the 1.5-mile Sendero Cascada Chacin and 1.7-mile Sendero Cascada Quechuquina, to epic treks like summiting perpetually snowcapped Lanin Volcano (12,388 feet/3,776 meters) astride the border between Argentina and Chile.

Several local rivers — including the Rio Hua Hum through the lush Valdivian forest and the Rio Chimehuin in the Andes foothills — offer guided whitewater rafting trips that commence from the town of San Martín de los Andes.

Golfers can tee off on several links including the 18-hole, 72-par course at Chapelco Golf Club (designed by Jack Nicklaus and his son), which is just a half-an-hour drive from River House Lodge.
