Chimp Research in Kibale Forest National Park.
August 28, 2015 - 1 minute readEssentially we replace the regular one-hour chimp trek at the park, this bespoke adventure offers a longer and much more in-depth glimpse of the primates.
Adventure Consults guests join a habituation and research team early in the morning to observe the chimps as they de-nest. Chimps actually make a new nest to sleep in every single night, so the location that we trek to varies from day to day. Once they’re up and about, we follow the animals over the course of a day to view their interactions, family dynamics, and maybe even forest raids. The research staff leading the trek have a very evolved knowledge of forest botany chimp behaviour, as well as the personalities and interactions of the individual chimps. We stay with the chimps until they start making new nests in the evening, probably around 6 pm.
The Kibale research treks are led by passionate guides selected for their wealth of knowledge on both primates and the Kibale Forest. Our trips are also used as part of university primatology courses to provide insight into chimp behavior.
Cost: USD 220 per person for this experience. We might need to alter or extend the client’s overall Uganda trip to provide time for this full-day inclusion.
