Another Lost World in the Amazon

Several years ago researchers studying satellite images of recently deforested areas of western Brazil discovered strange lines, ditches and other earthworks. At first they thought it may have been trench remnants of some 20th-century guerrilla stronghold. But closer inspection revealed them to be hundreds if not thousands of years old. Since then, researchers have found more than 200 massive structures across an area of 155 square miles.
