Cat in the hat . . . and the market . . . and tent . . . and everywhere
January 20, 2016 - 1 minute readDuring a recent journey through Jordan for a magazine assignment, writer and photographer, Joe Yogerst, started to notice how many cats there were — pretty much everywhere — and began snapping their photos.
Dogs being persona non grata in much of the Muslim world, felines are the favored pet in Jordan and elsewhere throughout the Middle East. Every hotel, ancient ruin and Bedouin desert camp that Yogerst visited in Jordan was home to at least one cat, sometimes many. And that included Petra, Amman, Wadi Rum, the John the Baptist site on the Jordan River, and even the Dead Sea.
