Iceland Connection Convenience

Tourism in Iceland is booming and so are the number of passengers flying through the gates of Keflavik International Airport. And these numbers are expected to increase even more with the coming addition of new convenient gateways.

Last year, airport authorities announced that the six millionth passenger had passed through its gates and this past July another record was set when more than one million visitors passed through the airport (coming, going or in transit) in the single month – a 22.21% increase over the same month in 2016.

Besides being the closet European airport to the U.S. and Canada, Keflavik boasts many first-rate amenities for weary travelers and was named “Best Airport in Europe” in 2015.

And there is even more good news for air travelers — three new gateways to Iceland.

On November 3, Icelandair will commence year-round service between Berlin-Tegel Airport (TXL) and Keflavik with three flights a week on Mondays, Fridays and Sundays. Tickets are now available for purchase with plans to further expand more flights between the two destinations in the summer of 2018.

“Berlin is our fourth gateway in Germany,” says Icelandair CEO Birkir Holm Gudnason, “and establishes our commitment to strengthen our transatlantic route network by providing passengers with more convenient connections between Europe and North America.”

Next May, Icelandair will kick off service between Keflavik and Cleveland, the airline’s 19th gateway in North America — the first carrier to provide service between the Ohio city and Europe in eight years.

And Icelandair recently announced that it will start flying out of Dallas/Fort Worth (DFW) International Airport next May, giving North Texas travelers another option for nonstop flights to Reykjavik.

Icelandair currently serves 30 destinations in Europe and 18 in North America. Iceland’s national carrier features new aircraft, live inflight performances and entertainment, and starting next year, increased wi-fi and high-speed connectivity streaming services.
