National Public Radio (NPR) recently published an interesting story on Masai women becoming safari guides in Kenya — among the first of their kind anywhere in Africa in a profession traditionally dominated by males.

Quotable quote: “It’s unique in a [Masai] community to be an independent woman,” says Evaline Sintoya Mayetu, who in March 2015 was the first Masai woman to get the silver guide qualification. “I would like to see more Masai women go for not only silver [but] go to school, to have a career of their own and break some barriers of traditional culture.”

The Citizen newspaper in Tanzania reports that Ngorongoro Conservation Area has been nominated to be registered as a UNESCO Global Geopark.
