Daytripping Uganda the Adventure Consults Way
March 23, 2018 - 4 minutes readExtending your stay in Uganda before or after your safari or conference allows you to see and enjoy a different side of the Pearl of Africa. Adventure Consults offers a number of day excursions to suit whatever your interests. Depending on your time and interests, we can also arrange an overnight or more in Jinja at one of the luxury, mid-range or camping properties beside the River Nile.
Jinja Adventure Tours
Source of the River Nile, Jinja is East Africa’s adventure capital and Adventure Consults offers a number of different programs to get your adrenaline pumping including cycling, golfing, whitewater rafting, horseback riding, quad bike (ATV) safaris, and bungee jumping over the world’s most famous river.
Ngamba Island Chimpanzee Sanctuary
The island in Lake Victoria is home to 48 lucky chimpanzees rescued by authorities and brought to the sanctuary for care and rehabilitation. The chimps are free to roam almost a hundred acres of tropical forest. Adventure Consults can take you there via a 45-minute boat ride and enough time on the island to watch their antics, enjoy the peaceful surroundings, and check out the other interesting animals and plants. Ngamba also has a beach where visitors can swim, kayak, or play beach volleyball. Full day or half day, morning or afternoon trips available.
Mabamba Bay Birding Excursion
Along the shore of Lake Victoria, this designated Important Bird Area (IBA) under the Ramsar Convention offer protections to around 190,000 feathered friends including the globally threatened shoebill stork (Balaeniceps rex). The Mabamba wetland system also hosts approximately 38% of the global population of the Blue Swallow (Hirundo atrocaerulea), as well as the globally-threatened Papyrus Yellow Warbler. This half-day excursion is always led by a highly knowledgeable birding guide and includes a canoe trip that enables even closer contact and better photo ops with the marsh-dwelling birds.
Ziwa Rhino and Wildlife Sanctuary
Home to the only wild rhinos in Uganda, this sanctuary was created to reintroduce rhino to Uganda after their extinction in 1982. Presently the reserve is home to 19 southern white rhinos and has become increasingly popular for rhino trekking, bird watching and nature walks. About a three-hour drive from Kampala/Entebbe, the sanctuary includes many other creatures including the Uganda kob, reed buck, oribi, hippo, crocodile and lots of birds. This trip includes lunch at Amuka Lodge.
Kampala City Tour
Your guided trip around the “City of Seven Hills” includes the National Museum, Baha’i Temple, Kasubi Tombs, Namirembe Cathedral, Rubaga Church, Nakasero Market, Kabaka’s Lake in Lubaga, the Uganda Martyrs Shrine Namugongo, and African craft markets. However, our city tours are not limited to these areas and can be customized to include areas that are of special interest to guests. For instance, if you’re spending Wednesday, Friday or Saturday in Kampala, we would recommend a visit to Ndere Cultural Centre to enjoy their dance performances from all corners of East Africa. Get in touch and we can make suggestions.
