Spice Traders, Island Tramps and Sea Gypsies

It might be a mouthful to say, but the “Spice Traders, Island Tramps and Sea Gypsies” cruise with SeaTrek Sailing Adventures takes in some of the most exotic and remote places in the Indonesian archipelago’s 17,000 islands.

The 12-day cruise — scheduled for Jan 28th to Feb 8th 2019 — ventures from Ternate in the Maluku (Moluccan) islands and transits across the Equator to seldom-visited Bacan Islands and Sula Archipelago before sailing down the east coast of Sulawesi and disembarkation at Kendari.

Aboard the Ombak Putih, a traditional wooden pinisi boat, the itinerary traces the ancient monsoon sailing routes developed for trade, migration and culture.

Tales of rare spices, maritime traders, sea gypsies, slavers and pirates will be spun daily by Jeffrey Mellefont, who joins the cruise as a special guest expert from the Australian National Maritime Museum.
