When A Fantastic Woman won the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film of 2017, the rest of the world suddenly noticed that Chile makes great movies. And it has been for years.

The recent Oscar-winner may be set in Santiago, but a number of recent movies have been filmed on location in Patagonia and the Lake District including these three that are currently available on Netflix:

Black Snow (Nieve Negra): An intense crime drama that revolves around an old tragedy and lingering animosity that erupts when a man returns to Patagonia to convince his estranged brother to sell the family’s isolated property. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt5614612/

The Night of the Wild Boar: While looking for answers about her boyfriend’s death in Patagonia, a romance writer becomes entangled in a dark and deadly historical mystery.

Neruda: When a Chilean policeman vows to find and capture leftist poet Pablo Neruda, a game of cat and mouse ensues that tests both their wills in a close-motion chase that plays out in the Lake District of southern Chile as Neruda tries to cross the Andes into neighboring Argentina. Nominated for a 2016 Academy Award as Best Foreign Language Film. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt4698584/
