If running the Marathon, was one of your New Year’s resolutions, you better start the training soon! Reach out, touch the history, and become a part of the original Marathon, the Athens Marathon. The history had begun in 490 BC when the Greek soldier Pheidippides ran from Marathon to Athens to bring the news of victory over the Persians. To honor the legendary messenger first organized Marathon was held in Athens in 1896 at the first Olympic Games of the modern era.
Now, every year on the 13th and 14th of November, athletes are welcome to join the run following the very steps of Pheidippides. This 26.2 miles (42 km) race can be one of the bucket list accomplishments! Not everybody can set athletic goals that high, so for the sports enthusiast, there is an option to power walk those 26.2 miles or join smaller races of 6.2 (10 km) and 3.1miles (5 km).
