During your stay at La Coralina Island House in the tropical paradise Bocas del Toro islands in Panama, be sure to join the new Chocolate Tour.

After a boat ride to Isla Bastimentos, you’ll arrive at La Loma Eco Lodge for an immersive chocolate experience. Learn about permaculture and different types of cacao, as well as other fruits, vegetables and plants that are grown and harvested in Bocas.

Accessible only by boat, La Loma sits in the heart of the Isla Bastimentos rainforest on a 55 acre property stretching from the mangrove shores of the Bahia Honda Bay, through tropical forest and groves of fruit trees, to the highest point on Isla Bastimentos.

The property nurtures thousands of chocolate (cacao) trees, a sustainable tropical forest crop that’s native to the Americas. Cacao thrives beneath the jungle canopy in compost-rich soil entirely free of pesticides and fertilizers. It’s a favored food of white-faced capuchin and western night monkeys that romp through the groves feasting on the pods.

From the vibrantly colored pods to the fragrant fresh beans that are fermented, dried and roasted, you’ll be able to see up close the process of producing 100% pure chocolate. The tour also includes lunch and it lasts approximately three hours.
