Growing cacao plants at Enchanted Lodge started as a fun hobby for owner Judy and her husband Rodolfo. To their surprise, the plants did very well, and they are excited to share with guests.

The tasting experience starts with a casual walk through the lodge orchard to learn about Arriba Nacional cacao plants — considered the best in the world — and continues with a chance to make fresh artisanal chocolate and then enjoy eating some.

According to the Cacao Laboratory, “Arriba Nacional is one of the most beloved types of cacao, favored by chocolate makers and Cacao enthusiasts alike. It is endemic to Ecuador and is a source of pride for Ecuadorian farmers.”

The new chocolate tasting experience is open to the public and restaurant guests for a fee, and is included for those staying overnight at Enchanted Lodge.
