Elewana Takes to the Kenyan Skies
August 3, 2015 - 3 minutes readAfter a high successful debut in northern Tanzania, Elewana is launching “SkySafari” in Kenya on a triangular itinerary that includes Masai Mara, Meru and Amboseli, with the possibility of extensions to the Kenyan Coast and/or Zanzibar. The SkySafari experience is a throwback to the golden age of African travel of the 1920’s and 30’s, when airplanes were the fastest and most convenient means of traveling to the bush.
Denys Finch Hatton of “Out of Africa” fame was one of the pioneers of the flying safari and shooting animals with cameras rather than guns. The legacy of those early aviator-conservationists passes down to modern times as SkySafari, a bespoke blend of Elewana’s game-viewing expertise, luxurious wilderness lodges and camps, intimate dining, and spectacular aerial-viewing over East Africa’s legendary landscapes.
The Kenyan SkySafari features several lodges recently added to the Elewana Collection via its takeover of Cheli & Peacock Safaris.
Elsa’s Kopje in Meru National Park boasts one of the most spectacular locations in East Africa. The lodge is built around a granite hill, each cottage individually designed to take advantage of the stunning views of a landscape where the “Born Free” saga of Elsa the Lion took place in the late 1950s and early 60s.
Located in Amboseli National Park, Tortilis opened in 1994 as Kenya’s first eco-lodge. Deliberately difficult to see from a distance, the lodge was constructed using local materials. The majority of its staff are local Masai, the first and still the only camp in Amboseli to do so.
Elewana is offering several specials on SkySafari journeys between now and the end of the year. “Fly Greener in 2015” features a 10% discount on the following departures during East Africa’s Green Season — 6th and 30th November 2015, and 10th December 2015. There is no supplement for single travelers on these trips. Our other special — “Early Bird 2015” — extends a 10% discount on reservations with full payment 180 days before the date of travel.
Due to the popularity of SkySafari, these offers can sell out very quickly. Please note that park fees are payable separately. The two specials cannot be combined and the Early Bird is not valid for trips during the holiday season.
Meanwhile, you can follow the Great Migration with Elewana on Facebook. Right now the wildebeest and zebra — and the predators trailing in their wake — are close by Elewana’s Sand River Masai Mara camp (www.facebook.com/SandRiverCamp). As the migration continues, follow its progress on other Facebook pages from the Elewana Collection, including our camps in both the Mara (Kenya) and the Serengeti (Tanzania).
