Iceland ProCruises Adds East Greenland in 2021
December 19, 2019 - 1 minute readStarting in the 2021 summer season, Iceland ProCruises is adding two super-remote destinations in East Greenland to a couple of its cruise itineraries in the North Atlantic.
Ammassalik Island is characterized by glaciers, jagged peaks, rivers, lakes and waterfalls. There are vast green valleys and deep fjords with newly calved icebergs dropping off the ice cap into the sea. Tasiilaq, the largest town in East Greenland, is located on the island. With its population of approximately 2,000 people, the secluded town is the gateway to exploring the region.
Farther down the coast, Skjoldungen Fjord is bordered by towering mountains tipped with snow and valleys with serpentine rivers of ice plunging into the sea. It’s highly likely the fjord was inhabited by Paleo-Eskimo (Inuit) nomadic people as early as 4,000 years ago. Surrounded by wild and pristine nature, it’s quite common to see whales, bearded seals and various kinds of birds in the area.
The new East Greenland stops will be featured in these two cruises:
“Iceland and Natural Wonders of Greenland” — 12 Days from 7-18 August 2021
“Natural Wonders of Greenland and Iceland” — 12 Days from 18-29 August 2021
