Loisaba’s New Tented Camp
June 29, 2016 - 2 minutes readLiterally rising from the ashes of a bush fire that destroyed the original camp in 2014, Elewana Loisaba Tented Camp reopened on May 1st on a spectacular cliff-top location that looks out over the wildlife-rich Laikipia Plains to snowcapped Mt Kenya. The camp is located in the Loisaba Conservancy, which was recently purchased by The Nature Conservancy. Loisaba, a functioning ranch, is a successful collaboration between conservation, local communities, ranching and tourism.
Covered in khaki-colored canvas, the main building shelters the camp’s open-air restaurant and bar beside a rock-hewn infinity pool. In addition to excellent continental food prepared with super-fresh local ingredients, the restaurant features an incredible array of South African and other southern hemisphere wines.
The new camp features 12 luxury tents including three double-tent family combinations. Each tent is equipped with ensuite bathroom, inside lounge area, panoramic patio and other creature comforts. One of the family combinations and a twin/double tent enjoy exclusive access to a second private infinity pool. As a dedicated eco-friendly property, the new camp features solar power, its own water filtration plant and a bio box for recycling organic items, as well as biodegradable shampoo and other bath products.
Visitors to Loisaba are offered a myriad of activities to experience the wildlife and landscape on many different levels. Loisaba boasts a fleet of brand new custom-designed Land Rover safari vehicles for game driving both day and night. Other activities include horse-riding, camel-trekking, guided bush walks, fishing, mountain biking, cultural visits to Samburu villages and visits to the anti-poaching sniffer dogs.
