SeaTrek Sailing Adventure Partners with Kopernik

SeaTrek Sailing Adventures has announced a life-changing collaboration with Kopernik, a Bali-based nonprofit committed to expanding clean energy to the most remote, under-served and hardest-to-reach parts of the developing world, including Indonesia.

The collaboration will empower the lives of thousands of families in remote Indonesian communities by giving them access to clean energy technologies, providing electricity and safe drinking water.

Since 2010, Kopernik has reached more than 400,000 people in 25 countries with simple, yet innovative, clean energy technologies. For its part, SeaTrek is increasing Kopernik’s reach by establishing a sustainable distribution network in Eastern Indonesia by carrying and distributing portable drinking water filters, solar lanterns, and other low-cost technologies to villagers in the outer edges of the archipelago.

Built into the regular cruising program, the delivery started last September with SeaTrek’s two pinisi schooners — the Ombak Putih and the Katharina — transporting 100 water purifying filters and 1,000 solar lanterns, which eliminate dependence on kerosene by providing up to four hours of bright light after a full charge. A Kopernik technician joined the first cruise to show the team how it’s done.

The delivery will continue throughout SeaTrek’s future cruising seasons and give passengers the opportunity to observe the delivery and installation of these life-changing items together with the simple training that the villagers will receive on product use.

SeaTrek is thrilled to be part of such a positive program and share these unforgettable moments with their guests. For further information, please go to www.seatrekbali.com or www.kopernik.info.
