Jane Behrend

Founder and President

An expert in adventure and wildlife destinations worldwide, Jane founded her  own travel marketing company in 1989 after working as an account executive in public relations and advertising sales. She has a long and strong background working with the tourism private sector and expanded several years ago into working with destinations.

Jane kicked off her travel industry career as the Southeast USA sales rep for African Travel, Gametrackers Botswana and 4th Dimension Tours, before helping Volcanoes Safaris relaunch tourism to Rwanda and Uganda in the North American market. In 2008, she rebranded her business as Emerging  Destinations, a company that represents cool companies in cool places around the globe. The name reflects her passion for working with areas where tourism is relatively new and still off the beaten path.

Born in South Carolina and raised in three Southern states, Jane is a graduate of  the University of Georgia  Journalism School and recently earned a Certificate of Hospitality Marketing from Cornell  University. Together with husband Chris Behrend, she has raised two children and a foster  daughter.

The Adventure Travel Trade Association (ATTA), the Association for the Promotion of Tourism in Africa (APTA), the U.S. Tour Operators Association (USTOA), Ensemble, Signature, Virtuoso, and the Travel Leaders Network count among the prestigious organizations that Jane and her clients in Africa, Europe and the Americas are affiliated with.

Fun Facts: Jane can touch her nose with her tongue and has incredible “seat karma” on airplanes.
